People around the world, and in Israel, are commemorating Earth Day on Sunday. The theme of this year's Earth Day is raising consciousness of the importance of personal action to prevent global warming.

Among the activities to take place in Israel will be the presentation of the “Green Globe” awards by Israeli environmental groups to organizations that advance environmental principles. Among the winners to be presented an award will be a company that rents out bicycles in Tel Aviv, and another that works against construction on Israeli beaches.
