High Court Downs Appeal of PA Travel Regulations

The Supreme Court rejected, Thursday, an appeal by the Center for Protection of the Individual and the Association for Citizens Rights against new procedures, under which, residents of the Palestinian Authority can find out in four days, by telephone, if there is a security barrier to them leaving Israel via the Allenby Bridge over the River Jordan.

The petition demanded that the response be immediate and that the procedure poses a hardship for travelers. The court accepted the government's position that the time needed for the security check was reasonable and intended to prevent mishaps and problems for those who would otherwise arrive at the crossing, only to find out they do not have permission to leave.
