Public Information and Diaspora-Affairs Minister Yuli-Yoel Edelstein decided, Friday, that the main observance to inaugurate Independence Day will take place on Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem, despite Wednesday's fatal collapse of a lighting structure at the site. The decision followed consultation with Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem and Chairman Stas Misezhnikov of the Committee on Symbols and Rituals.
The decision is subject to the approval of appropriate agencies. It was also decided to give a dignified and appropriate mention of the memory of Second Lieutenant Hila Betzaleli and the pain of her family, in coordination with them.
