Yisrael Katz: Barak Gathering Votes by Butting Yesha

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz accused Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Friday morning, of working against the Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria out of political motives. Speaking during a visit to the Ulpana neighborhood in the Binyamin-region community of Beit El, which is under a Supreme Court order for uprooting on May 1st, Katz said, "If Barak acts against the position of the government, the prime minister must fire him."

The Likud lawmaker said Barak is trying to gather votes for his Atzma'ut party to pass the threshhold for qualify for Knesset representation in the next parliamentary elections, currently scheduled for next year, by confronting the Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria, where Barak holds the power to approve the legal status of communities. Katz also expressed hope that the government and its attorneys would find a solution that will prevent the destruction of the neighborhood.
