“When we look around, we see that the Middle East has changed . The spirit of revolution has reshuffled the deck, and we stand at the dawn of a new era. There is a possibility that we will have to face challenges similar to those we faced at the founding of the State. I am certain the IDF will handle any task,” said IDF CoS Benny Gantz at the Yad Mordechai Holocaust Day closing ceremony.
The spirit of heroism that imbued the Jews from Masada to Tel Hai, to ghetto and independence fighters is embodied in Yad Mordechai, reflected Gantz. “Few facing many, besieged and exhausted, always certain that the Eternal One of Israel will see them through. We salute here the heroism of generations and are filled with pride over the accomplishments of the last 64 years. We now possess a strong , determined army that can deter all danger.”
Some 4,000 participants took part in the ceremony, among them ministers, MKs, southern authority heads, public figures, members of youth movements from Israel and abroad, and many guests.
