German Minister: Israeli Reaction to Grass Exagerrated

A senior German minister said that Israel's decision to ban author and philosopher Gunter Grass was “exaggerated.” Speaking to German newspaper Die Welt, German Health Minister Daniel Bahr said Monday that Israel's reaction to a poem Grass wrote bashing Israel for “endangering world peace” and “acting like Iran” was overwrought. “I cannot imagine Mr. Grass wanting to visit Israel” after the criticism and the ban.

“It is sad to see that someone who has directly felt all the controversial issues in post-war Germany would be marked as a target of prejudice and stubbornness,” said Bahr.
