Apropos of Pesach, when egg consumption rises due to the use of hard boiled eggs in the Seder, and the reliance of many bakers on eggs for cakes and other goods, animal rights activists on Monday conducted a protest against Israel's egg industry. The activists from the “Let the Animals Live” and Anonymous animal rights groups conducted a “street theater” protest in Tel Aviv in which they graphically illustrated the suffering of baby chicks, and loudly played recordings of the screams of chickens and chicks raised on industrial poultry farms.

According to the protesters, some 4.5 million chicks die annually on egg farms, with the bodies crushed or minced to bits and then dumped, or used in various other products.
