Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak participated Thursday at an event marking 40 years since the Sabena hijacking attempt. Both Netanyhau and Barak participated in the rescue mission when they were young commandos. In 1972 Sabena Flight 571 was hijacked by Arab terrorists. Israeli soldiers disguised as airplane technicians successfully stopped the terrorists and rescued the passengers. Netanyahu stated at the event that Israel must continue to fight against terrorism, stating "Ultimately, no one will defend the Jews if the Jews do not protect themselves. This is the cardinal rule."
