The body of convicted Nazi war criminal John (Ivan) Demjanjuk was buried in a secret ceremony in an undisclosed location, according to the Ukrainian News web site. The article quoted Rostyslav Novozhenets, of the Ukrainian Republican Party who stated that Demjanujk's son in suburban Cleveland, Ohio had buried his father in an undisclosed located on March 31st after the body was flown from Germany.
Born Ivan Demjanjuk in Ukraine, the indictment stated he volunteered to be a death camp guard. Germany convicted him as an accessory to the murder of 27,900 civilians during World War II. He was deported from his home in a Cleveland suburb after United States officials found him guilty of lying about his Nazi past to gain entry to the United States. In the 1980s Israeli courts found him innocent of being the notorious death camp guard Ivan the Terrible of Treblinkla by proving he was a death camp guard at Sobibor instead.
Novozhenets said that the Demjanjuk family may fear Jewish retribution. "Jewish organizations have already shown interest in it. [the grave's location] Novozhenets was quoted as having said.
