Histadrut chairman Ofer Eini announced on Sunday night that Israel Railways will launch a general strike for an indefinite period of time starting Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. Eini’s announcement came following an emergency meeting with the heads of the various unions in the transportation sector. The meeting was held after the chair of the Israel Railway Workers’ Union, Gila Edray, and several other members were suspended.
Eini called on Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz to begin negotiations with the railway workers and freeze the proceedings against the employees in order to prevent the strike.
