President Shim'on Peres said, Sunday evening, that late prime minister Yitzchak Rabin and president Zalman Shazar "made, both in their unique way, a rare contribution to the Zionist Vision, to the education of the young generation and to the future of the state of Israel." Speaking at the official memorial observance for deceased prime ministers and presidents at the Presidential Residence, Peres said, "President Shazar brought [to the office] the accumulated wisdom of our people being in exile, and Yitzchak Rabin brought from his Jerusalem crib the wonderful freshness of the generation that was born in Israel. Not just our generation but all history will cherish the actions of President Zalman Shazar and Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin."
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu added, "The two leaders we admire tonight - Zalman Shazar and Yitzchak Rabin - helped lay two twin foundations of our national soundness. Through their investment in our spirit and force, they taught us the way to base the foundations of our existence to our future."
