Chairman Ofir Eini of the Histadrut Labor Federation is scheduled to convene a meeting of workers' committee leaders in the transportation sector at 8:00 Sunday evening to discuss the crisis at Israel Railways. He called on Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz to freeze all the procedures carried out Sunday by railroad management, which suspended chairwoman Galia Edreit of the railroad workers' committee on allegations she threatened members of management during recent sanctions.
In a letter to Katz, Eini noted that the workers did not strike against privatization of maintenance of the line's rolling stock after they received permission from the labor court to do so, so as not to harm the travelling public. He accused the minister of provocations against the workers. He called management's disciplinary hearings on various pretexts a crossing of red lines.
