“Good, Strong People are being Fired”

In a Knesset Retiree Lobby session Thursday it was revealed that over half of israel’s unemployed, some 100,000 Israelis, are over the age of 45. Lobby Head MK Lia Shemtov (Yisrael Beiteinu) said, “We have become a state that Idolizes youth employment. Good, strong people are being fired or forced into early retirement.”

The lobby proposed allowing septuagenarians to continue their employment based on personal assessment of their capabilities, without compelled retirement.
