3 Detained on Suspicion of Defrauding Educ. Ministry

The fraud squad of the Jerusalem detained three hareidi-religious men, aged 35-40, for questioning, Monday, on suspicion they defrauded the Ministry of Education and received money for students in a fictitious kollel. A remand hearing is scheduled Tuesday morning in the Jerusalem Magistrates Court.

The three are suspected of declaring the opening of a yeshiva in which dozens of students learned, providing the ministry with the names and identity numbers of the students and receiving hundreds of thousands of shekels a year from the ministry. The investigation opened after a complaint by one of those students, who received an SMS to attend a meeting prior to a ministry assessment of the school even though he had never studied there and did not recognize the institution.
