Obama, Abbas Speak on the Phone

U.S. President Barack Obama spoke by telephone on Monday evening with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. According to a statement from the White House, “The two leaders agreed on the necessity of a two-state solution, and Obama said that Jordan's efforts to host direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians made an important contribution to peace.”

The conversation was Obama and Abbas’ first since the two met in September in New York.
