Cabinet OKs Trajtenberg Housing Recommendations

The cabinet unanimously approved, Sunday, the housing section of the Trajtenberg Commission Report, which includes steps designed to increase supply of residential apartments and reduce housing prices. Under the recommendations, approximately 187,000 new apartments will be marketed throughout the country over the next five years, 60 percent of them in the high-demand areas around Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, including 40,000 apartments in the "affordable" range.

During the period, the government will allocate 160 million shekels a year to assist those eligible for public housing. The maximum rental assistance for those eligible for public housing who are compelled to rent will rise from NIS 1,750 today to NIS 3,000.
