Attorney Nechemia Perlman of the Samarian Jewish community of Kedumim, who won an 11-year battle to clear his name, following a fatal terror attack on Mount Eibal in 2000, succumbed to cancer, Thursday. The father of nine was in his 60s. The funeral is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. at the Segulah Cemetery in Petach Tikva.
Rabbi Binyamin Herling was murdered and four people were wounded in the attack. A military commission ruled that Perlman was responsible for the incident, accusing him of deceiving the army and bringing hikers to Mount Eibal without a permit. After a long campaign, state attorney's determined that an injustice had been done and ordered Perlman to be compensated 770,000 shekels.
