Part of the historic Torah Gates building collapsed on Wednesday in south Tel Aviv. The complex was built approximately 120 years ago and housed a synagogue, yeshiva and classrooms and courtyard. The head of the Action Committee for Saving Synagogues in the Neve Tzedek neighborhood said the committee was "watching with anxiety and praying the damage is minimal." The committee is attempting to prevent the heritage sites from being bulldozed and turning into high-rise luxury apartments.
