Against Deportations? Let Africans Stay at Your House.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai responded with a unique suggestion to a petition signed by 400 people asking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop the repatriation of African migrant workers, refugees and infiltrators. He said those that signed the letter are invited to volunteer to serve as foster families and open up their own homes for the infiltrators.

Minister Yishai started "I will continue to preserve Israel as a Jewish state... to promote the border fence against infiltrators in the south." Yishai also advocated speeding up the process of building residential halfway houses for the infiltrators to live in until they can be repatriated to their home countries.

Yishai and other government officials have drawn a distinction between refugees from war torn South Sudan, and migrants looking for work from Eritrea and Somalia. The government has offered free plane flights to send non-citizens back to their home countries, making sure they do not send refugees back to danger zones. In select cases, Sudanese refugees have been integrated into Israeli society and in one case, an individual joined the Israel Defense Force.
