Knesset Rejects Cut to Post-Military Wait

The Knesset voted Wednesday to reject a law that would have cut the waiting period for former IDF officials who wish to enter politics. The bill, rejected in a first reading, would have slashed the waiting period from three years to one.

The proposal was put forth by MKs Shelly Yechimovich and Yitzchak Herzog of the Labor party. It was dubbed “Ashkenazi’s law,” due to perceptions that it was meant to bring former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi into Knesset next year.
