Two Israeli Arabs, along with a Ukrainian citizen, were sentenced to life in prison in Egypt on Monday. The two were convicted of trying to smuggle a machine gun in from Israel to Sinai. The Ukranian, who manages a hotel in Sinai, ordered the machine gun from the Israeli Arabs, and they were arrested when they tried to smuggle it through the Taba crossing.
The Arabs said they did not know that the gun was in their luggage, but their argument was rejected by the court. One of the Arabs who was present was taken into custody immediately, as was the Ukranian. The other Arab is currently in Israel.
