Pro-Arab, Leftist Groups Appeal Boycott Law

Eight leftist and pro-Arab groups filed a petition in the Supreme Court, Monday, against a law that went into effect last July, which makes it possible to seek damages from someone who calls on people to avoid buying products from Israel or any part of it or any area under its control. The Boycott Law also applies to people who would not take part in events with people from these areas, and authorizes the Finance Minister to impose severe economic sanctions on anyone who calls for a boycott or agrees to participate.

The petitioners claim that the law puts a price tag on legitimate expression and harms public debate.
