750 Hesder Students to Induction Monday

About 750 students from the Hesder yeshiva program, which combines Judaic studies with military service, will begin the military portion of the progam on Monday as part of the Israel Defense Forces' March induction. Almost 79 percent of them will be in combat roles with dozens being given non-combat intelligence and rabbinical assignments.

Chief Executive Officer Eitan Ozeri of the Hesder Yeshivas Association said, Monday that the current class includes groups of about 15 students that will enter two new specialties: naval instrumentation and information security in the intelligence corps. He said the class can be characterized by its high motivation for combat or other significant military service, adding that some yeshivas boasted induction groups in which all the students received combat assignments.
