French Prime Minister Calls Kosher Meat Unsanitary

French Prime Minister stated in a radio interview that “religions should reflect on dietary rules that don’t have much to do with the modern state of science, technology and sanitation.” He made the statements in regards to the fact that animals used for kosher meat and meat prepared under the Muslim halal laws are not stunned first.

PM Fillon said he did not mean to offend religious sensibilities and is currently meeting with French Jewish and Muslim representatives to explain his comments.

Some experts believe that the Jewish practice of slitting the carotid artery of the animal's neck as opposed to stunning is the least painful way of slaughter. Most slaughtering is accompanied by stunning in France.
