Rabbis rule to avoid dangerous Purim firecrackers. The Hatzalah Emergency Rescue organization has announced a raffle with prizes for kids who are willing to forego using the hazardous explosive toys.
Traditionally, the audience raises a cacophony at the mention of Purim villain Haman’s name during the reading of the Book of Esther in the synagogue. This custom has mutated into the detonation of firecrackers by children during the reading, and from there to Firecracker Season, all around Purim across Jewish communities throughout Israel.
