Knesset To Curb News Anchor's Election Bid

The House Committee approved the first reading the "Lapid Law 2." The bill is the latest to be drafted following Yair Lapid's announcement that he intends to run for Knesset. Lapid has been a TV news anchor since 1994 and previously a political columnist. The bill was submitted by Member of Knesset Yariv Levin of the Likud Party.

The bill would require anyone who declares the intention to run for Knesset, to first register as a political party. The purpose of the bill would be to gain greater transparency in political dealings.
