Costume Day Kicks off Purim Observances

Israeli children went to school, Tuesday dressed in costumes for Purim (the Feast of Esther), in keeping with the coverup theme of the holiday.

Wednesday is the dawn-to-dusk Fast of Esther, after which Jews in most of the country will celebrate Purim with the festive reading from the Book of Esther in the evening and the morning, as well as a festive daytime meal and exchange of food baskets. In Jerusalem, the holiday will begin Thursday evening.
