Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called on Monday for authorizing “overwhelming” use of force against Iran if the regime develops nuclear weapons, according to a report in Politico.com.
Speaking before the AIPAC conference, McConnell said he would introduce the authorization upon consultation with President Barack Obama and congressional leaders if intelligence shows Iran has started to enrich uranium to weapons-grade levels or decides to build a nuclear bomb.
“This authorization, if enacted, will ensure the nation and the world that our leaders are united in confronting Iran, and will undermine the perception that the U.S. is wounded or retreating from global responsibilities,” McConnell said.
