Parliamentary Polls Open in Iran

Parliamentary elections are being held in Iran Friday. They are the first elections since the disputed presidential balloting of 2009, when the official results keeping Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president were so contrary to pre-election surveys that disturbances broke out.

Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khaminei said a high turnout will preserve the Islamic Republic's security. Speaking after he cast his own ballot, the cleric stressed that voting was a right and an obligation.
