    C'tee: State Archives Must Remain in State's Hands

    The Knesset Finance Committee called on the government, Tuesday morning, "not to privatize the state archives and not to transfer them out of Jerusalem." The committee was voicing its opposition to a NIS 700 million proposal to establish a new building for the archives in the southern Israeli city of Arad.

    During discussion of the proposal, Committee ChairmanMosheGafni said, "the Commissiondemandsthe government archive theplan forprivatizationofstatearchives. "Documentsof the highest degree of national value should not passinto private hands."
