C'tee: State Archives Must Remain in State's Hands

The Knesset Finance Committee called on the government, Tuesday morning, "not to privatize the state archives and not to transfer them out of Jerusalem." The committee was voicing its opposition to a NIS 700 million proposal to establish a new building for the archives in the southern Israeli city of Arad.

During discussion of the proposal, Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni said, "the Commission demands the government archive the plan for privatization of state archives. "Documents of the highest degree of national value should not pass into private hands."
