C'tee OKs Expansion of Pensions to Housewives, Widows

The Knesset Finance Committee approved for first reading, Tuesday, a bill to extend old age pensions for widows and housewives born before 1931, who were not covered by the law that was passed that year.

The bill's sponsor, Finance Committee chairman Moshe Gafni, said that "it is repairing a historic injustice. The law passed in 1961 stipulates that whoever was a homemaker until the age of 65 receive a pension, but who until the time of the law's effect, did not work, does not receive the allowance. That does not make sense and does not deserve ".
