Progress in Talks May Head Off Nurses Strike

Sources involved in the negotiations between the nurses union and the Ministries of Health and Finance reported progress, Sunday eveningChairwoman Ilana Cohen of the Nurses Federation expressed the hope that it will be possible to reach significant progress in order to prevent a strike planned for Monday.

Nurses have walked out on wards that have been filled with more patients than agreed to by the union and management in recent months. The federation suggested ways to ease the suffering of patients and it was decided that the Ministry of Health would respond, including an incentive plan for the nurses,  on Tuesday morning.
