Report: Gov't Wants to Finish IBA Reform in a Month

The government will ask the Knesset to complete reform legislation for the Israel Broadcasting Authority by the end of the parliament's winter session, next month, according to Kol Yisrael government radio. Among other things, the Knesset will be asked to allow the minister in charge of the authority to stop this year's reduction of the fee paid by radio and television owners.

The government's stance was indicated by its response to the Supreme Court on a petition by companies producing content for the IBA. It was also stated in response that the state will support the financing of the reform because the authority is unable to bear the costs alone.
