The governmentwill ask the Knessetto complete reformlegislation forthe Israel Broadcasting Authorityby the end ofthe parliament's winter session,next month, according to Kol Yisrael government radio. Among other things, the Knesset will be asked toallow the ministerin charge of theauthorityto stop this year'sreductionof the fee paid by radio and television owners.
The government's stance was indicated by its response to theSupreme Courton a petitionby companies producing content for the IBA. It was also statedin responsethat the statewillsupportthe financing ofthe reformbecausethe authorityis unableto bear the costsalone.
