Bnei Brak Rabbis: Mitzvah to Report Fireworks Sales

Bnei Brak rabbis Rabbi Shmuel Halevy Vazner and Rabbi Nissim Kerlitz have issued a pre-Purim warning regarding the use of firecrackers. Parents should prohibit their children from using firecrackers, they said, noting that the matter approaches the severity of “pikuach nefesh” – a life and death situation – due to the potential for injury.

Those who see others selling or distributing firecrackers to youth in violation of the law should be reported to police or municipal authorities, the rabbis said, adding that to report such violations is a mitzvah (positive commandment).
