Law to Reduce Divorce Refusal Okayed for Final Readings

The Knesset  Constitution, Law and Justice Committee approved for its second and third reading, Monday, a bill intended to reduce the number of men who leave their wives but refuse to grant them a divorce under Jewish law (get). The measure sets a maximum time for the time between a divorce ruling and hearing on sanctions if a divorce settlement is not in place.

If passed, this will mark the first time that rabbinical courts will be require to follow each file from the time of judgement until the end of the process, including any need to impose sanctions. The final readings in the Knesset are expected in the next few weeks.
