MK Rabbi Haim Amsalem, Chairman of the Whole Nation party, said on Sunday that he demands that the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense hold a special session around the simple question of whether the IDF is indeed interested in having hareidi-religious Jews enlist.
Speaking to Arutz Sheva on the issue, Rabbi Amsalem noted that Judge Zvi Tal, who headed the committee which examined the issue, explicitly and decisively said the IDF is not really interested in the army enlistment of haredi-religious soldiers.
“I support the integration of hareidim and the enlistment of those who do not study Torah, but when Judge Tal says the army does not want them, I ask that the army will look at all of us in the eye and tell us it indeed wants them,” Rabbi Amsalem said. “Until this matter is not clarified, the attacks on the hareidim are not justified.”
