Stav Shapir, one of the leaders of the social struggle, said, Sunday, that the agreement signed by the Histadrut Labor Federation and the Finance Ministry regarding contract labor was not enough. Shapir said, "Improvingthe working conditionsof contract employeesisa very important step, butdoes not get tothe root of the problem. [Finance Minister Yuval] Steinitz istrying to educate theIsraeli public andtell all of us that ifwe just work hard, we will succeed. But the fact is that in the State ofIsrael, hundredsof thousands of peoplework very hard-and don'tget anywhere. We call themcontract workers."
He added, "The same Steinitzdecidedtodaynotto change their livesand leave thesituationunchanged. The only way for atrulysignificantachievement is throughdirectemploymentofcontract workers. As long asthe employmentsystemdoes not change, the situationwill not changeessentially."
