Stav Shapir, one of the leaders of the social struggle, said, Sunday, that the agreement signed by the Histadrut Labor Federation and the Finance Ministry regarding contract labor was not enough. Shapir said, "Improving the working conditions of contract employees is a very important step, but does not get to the root of the problem. [Finance Minister Yuval] Steinitz is trying to educate the Israeli public and tell all of us that if we just work hard, we will succeed. But the fact is that in the State of Israel, hundreds of thousands of people work very hard - and don't get anywhere. We call them contract workers."
He added, "The same Steinitz decided today not to change their lives and leave the situation unchanged. The only way for a truly significant achievement is through direct employment of contract workers. As long as the employment system does not change, the situation will not change essentially."
