Chairman Meir Indor of the Almagor umbrella organization of terror-victim groups paid his last respects, Sunday to Dr. Aharon Davidi, who passed away Saturday evening in his mid 80's. Indor remembered Davidi as a co-founder of the Sar-El organization, which brings volunteers from abroad to assist the Israel Defense Forces, saying nobody was better suited for the job. He added that Reserves Brigadier-General Davidi worked on the project until his dying day.
A veteran of the Haganah and Palmach pre-state militias, Davidi was among Israel's earliest paratroopers. Cited for bravery in 1955 in Gaza, the following year he was credited with a decisive role in the battle of Mitla Pass. During the Six-Day War, he played a major role in the capture of Sharm El-Sheikh, taking over for a wounded Raful Eitan, leading his soldiers to the Suez Canal.
