Court: Why Did Knesset Not Vote on Water Rates?

The Supreme Court issued an order, Sunday, instructing the cabinet, the Ministers of Finance and Infrastructure and the Water and Sewage authority to explain why they should not cancel increases made in 2010 and 2011 in the price of water, without the required parliamentary approval.

The order was issued in response to a petition submitted by the Association of Social Workers, the Israeli Forum for Social Responsibility and the "Yedid" (Friend) organization who claimed that an increase in water prices, without creating a mechanism of discounts for the disadvantaged population, is violation of self-respect and the right to live in dignity.
