Eini: Talks Won't Violate Shabbat

The office of Histadrut Labor Federation Chairman Ofir Eini said, Friday, that the union has no intention of violating the Sabbath, and that if no agreement was reached with the Finance Ministry regarding the issue of contract labor by the time Shabbat started, talks would not continue until the end of Shabbat on Saturday night.

The Histadrut was responding to a telephone call by Chairman David Vazna of the Bank of Israel employees committee, in which he warned of negotiations extending past Friday afternoon's 4:46 p.m. Jerusalem candle-lighting time. Following talks that were scheduled to begin at noon, the two sides are to report their progress to National Labor Court President Nili Arad at 3:00 p.m.
