Chairman Ya'akov Katz of the National Union party welcomed today's official appointment of Supreme Court Justice Asher Grunis to be president of the tribunal. Ketzaleh initiated what has been called the "Grunis Law", which the Knesset passed to allow the jurist to hold the top spot. In a statement, the Knesset member said, ""The people of Israel were an active participant in the selection, this time, through their representatives.Citizens of Israelare holding on tohopethat today a new process andpage in Israeli law is being opened and Ihope forother lawsthat will returnpeopleslowly to trusttheir judges and view them as people who representtheirstates ofmind,faithand heritage."
National Union Member of Knesset Uri Ariel said the appointment marked "an important day forloversof justice anddemocracy". He called Grunis " an excellent judge from the shoulders up who I'm sure will place his imprint on the institution of the entire Supreme Courtandwill workto strengthenthe people's trustin the legal system, whichprovides justicefor all.
