Syrian tanks continued to gather, Thursday evening, outside the town of Homs, near the northeast corner of Lebanon, on the fifth day of a fierce attack on the city. During the day, more than a hundred people were killed by government forces.
European Union foreign-policy chief Catherine Ashton called on Russia, Thursday, during a visit in Mexico, to support a United Nations resolution that demanded an end to the Damascus government's deadly attacks. Expressing disappointment in the Security Council veto, by Russia and China of a motion condemning the violence, Lady Ashton said that Russia has to recognize facts on the ground, adding that the international community cannot allow the killing to continue.
