Education Minister Gid'on Sa'ar announced, Thursday, that Professor Yoav Binyamini will received the 2012 Israel Prize in Economic and Statistical Research.
In recommending Professor Binyamini for the award, theIsraelPrize committee,headed by ProfessorBentzion Silberfarb,said,"Professor Benjaminisan example of a blend betweenan applied statistician, who contributes to manybranches ofsciencein the worldand in Israel,and thetheoreticalstatistician who develops new statistical tools. Professor Binyamini's main contribution is an innovative andgroundbreaking approach,"The erroneous discoveries rate", proposedin collaborationwithProfessor JosephHochberg. This approachhas changed theway thetestproblemswhichrequirea statisticalexaminationofa large number ofhypotheses. Thisinnovative approach, which initiallyencounteredinnovation,has becomethe mostpopularmethodfor analyzingcomplexhypotheses in extensiveareas ofscience."
