Education Minister Gid'on Sa'ar announced, Thursday, that Professor Yoav Binyamini will received the 2012 Israel Prize in Economic and Statistical Research.
In recommending Professor Binyamini for the award, the Israel Prize committee, headed by Professor Bentzion Silberfarb, said, "Professor Benjamin is an example of a blend between an applied statistician, who contributes to many branches of science in the world and in Israel, and the theoretical statistician who develops new statistical tools. Professor Binyamini's main contribution is an innovative and groundbreaking approach,"The erroneous discoveries rate", proposed in collaboration with Professor Joseph Hochberg. This approach has changed the way the test problems which require a statistical examination of a large number of hypotheses. This innovative approach, which initially encountered innovation, has become the most popular method for analyzing complex hypotheses in extensive areas of science."
