Speaking Monday, French President Nicholas Sarkozy said that Germany and France were doing what they could to help Syrian citizens. At a press conference with German Chancellor Andrea Merkel, Sarkozy said that “France and Germany have not forgotten the Syrian people.”

Sarkozy added that “What is going on in Syria is a scandal. It is surprising that Russia, which is usually supportive of the Arab League's positions, is now distancing itself from the League.” Merkel said that she hoped that Moscow would “carefully consider the results of its decisions.”
