Large Earthquake Strikes Off Philippines

A major earthquake struck the Philippines Monday. The quake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, triggered a tsunami alert, and tens of thousands were seeking higher ground in the Cebu region of the central islands of the country. The alert was cancelled several hours after being issued.

At least 30 people were reported killed in the quake. At least 40 were reported missing in the immediate aftemath of the quake.
