Visitors from North Africa and the Gulf States are expected at the 2012 Agritech international agricultural exhibition scheduled for Tel Aviv in May. The visitors are members of the international organization for plastic in agriculture, which will hold its annual convention in conjunction with the fair. Jordan and Turkey are also members of the group, which voted unanimously to meet here.
According to the organization's Israeli president, Yitzchak Askyra, holding the conference in the country reflects the strong position and reputation of Israel in agriculture, especially in desert regions and low rainfall. He said one of the aims of the conference will be to change the image of the use of plastics in agriculture for the environment. The conference will discuss the use of greenhouses to create solar energy, using biodegradable sheets and methods of assistance for small farmers in developing economies around the world. The use of greenhouse allows savings of up to 100% on heating bills and reduces the use of water, chemical fertilizers and pesticides by large percentages.
