The Philippines Seismology Institute issued a tsunami alert, Monday, following a strong earthquake that shook area islands. A child is known to have died as a result. The epicenter of the 6.8 quake was southeast of the island of Negros. The island of Vanuatu suffered a quake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, following a 7.1 magnitude quake on Friday.
The alert said the tremor could cause meter-high waves. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has not issued a similar warning.
