In what was one of the most violent episodes of the 11-month Syrian uprising, Syrian government forces heavily shelled the neighborhoods in the city of Homs with mortars and artillery on Saturday. Terrified residents fled into basements and more than 200 people were killed in the shelling, according to activists.
