Erdan Cites Samaria for Environmental Protection

Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan praised the residents and leaders of Samaria (Shomron), Thursday, for their efforts to protect the environment, and pledged to do what he could to advance their legal standing in the area. His comments came during a day-long tour of the area as part of the Samaria Regional Council's ongoing hosting of decision makers and people of influence. Council Chairman Gershon Mesika praised Erdan for his environmental awareness efforts, as well as his support for the region's communities, which are threatened by uprooting.

The tour emphasized environment-related activities, such as groundwater protection (The region supplies the state with a third of its water.) and the "Green Council" project, which is in its advanced stages, and facilities, such as the Ofertech recycling factory in the Barkan industrial area. Local officials also briefed the minister on environmental damage caused by the Palestinian Authority, often intentionally.
