China and Russia Block Veto Against Syria
The government of Russia and China blocked a veto against Syria in the United Nations Security Council late Tuesday. United States Secretary of State Hilary Clinton lamented the veto, stating, "The countries that chose to veto the resolution will have to offer their own explanations to the Syrian people, and to all others who are fighting for freedom and human rights around the world."
The United States was one of the 15 member countries of the UN Security Council seeking to put more pressure on the Syrian government to halt violence against anti-regime rebels. Syria is Israel's neighbor to the north and technically still considered an enemy nation.
